ICC Events and New Zealand
ICC Tournaments and New Zealand a perfect combo
A team which is in the good books of every cricket fan. A team to whom
we call the team of good boys. A team having zero hater. A team which always do
their work silently and make their performance do noise. “New Zealand”, yes we
are talking about the Blackcaps.
The most consistent team in the ICC events since last 7 years has once
again made it to the knockouts of ICC T20 WC 2022 in Australia. They are the 1st
team to do this among both the groups, where others teams like Australia,
England, India are still in the race to semi-finals.
Actually it is not surprising as this is not the 1st time they
are doing so, they are doing this regularly. Particularly in last 7 years from
2015 they have been the most consistent team in this mega events. During this
phase there were 6 ICC Tournaments have been played, out of which they have
qualified for knockouts 5 times.
Out of these 5 instances New Zealand have made 4 times into the Finals
in 2015 & 2019 ICC 50 Overs WC, 2021 World Test Championship & T20 WC.
However they only managed to won the trophy once in World Test Championship
against India. While in other 3 instances they became runner’s up.
They lost to Australia in 2015 WC and 2021 T20 WC, while 2019 was the
most heartbreaking tournament for them. After putting up an excellent
performance in the Finals they just missed the glory on boundary count against the
host England. In the only Semi-finals they played in this phase they lost to
England during 2016 WT20 in India.
Their only failure had come in 2017 ICC Champions Trophy held in
England. Now again this time around they have emerged as a hot favorite to
making into another Finals and may be finishing at podium. They are just 2
steps behind from that moment now, on which they couldn’t capitalized last
year. Now they are determined to fulfil that dream this time.
The hallmark of this New Zealand team is their performance under the leadership
of Kane Williamson who is extremely cool and composed like MS Dhoni or may a
little bit cooler than him. The way he plans for the opponent and execute it
with their players is simply remarkable.
They are not a side of having
superstars like Virat Kohli or David Warner in the team, but they are like a unit
of 11 individual match winners, who are executing their team’s plan every
single time in the field they play. Especially they are proving to be
Night-mare for Indian team in ICC Knockouts.
While the 1 spot is filled by them still 3 other teams have to reach the
Semi-finals yet. Though they are playing some wonderful cricket but as this is
a 20-20 format so anything might happen. At the start they are like dark-horses
for the tournament but at the moment they are like a front runner for that
trophy. So let’s see what the Kane’s team does this time around?
