 The Gautam Gambhir Era in Indian Cricket

As the Title Suggest, a new era is going to start in Indian Cricket, at least in shortest and the most entertaining and exciting format in International Cricket i.e. T20I, in which Team India is now Defending Champions.


29th June, 2024 the Memorable day in Indian Cricket, on which Team Rohit and Co. Won the T20WC since 2007 and an ICC Trophy after almost 11 Long Years. Three Finest Players of this format for Team India, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja took Retirement from T20Is after being World Champions.

Also, this Tournament was the last  assignment for Team India’s Head Coach, “The Wall of Indian Cricket”, Mr. Rahul Dravid. And he finished it well with a WC Win under his Name. World Cricket first time ever witnessed a very pumped up Rahul Dravid with very energetic Celebration.

With the high emotions of WC Victory, BCCI had already started the Succession Plan. Obviously finding replacement for 3 Big Players was never a concern for selectors, but to find the right successor of Rahul Dravid was the Key. And by Choosing Gautam Gambhir, BCCI did the Perfect Job.


Because, Gautam is a Fine Cricketing Brain, who just had a great success with KKR during 2024 TATA IPL as Mentor. Under his Mentorship Kolkata Won their 3rd IPL Title and as We know the Previous two titles that KKR had Won, that had came under the Leadership of the Man himself Gautam Gambhir.

He has also Mentored Lucknow Franchise for two Seasons, 2022-23 in which LSG Made Playoffs both the times. Although, he hasn’t been into the Coaching Role. But, as Mentor his CV is Outstanding. Also, can’t forget his Contribution towards Indian Cricket as a Player Only.

India’s two greatest WC Victory, 2007 T20WC and 2011 ODIWC, in which he played two Vital Knocks in Most Important Finals, will be remembered forever. And no Indian Fan would want to forget that. So, something very similar kind of Contribution towards Indian Cricket, that’s all we are looking forward from the Coach Gautam Gambhir in Coming Days.


His tenure will start from 27th July, 2024, from the White Ball Series against Srilanka featuring 3 T20Is and Odis each. VVS Laxman took that Head Coach Role during India’s Tour of Zimbabwe in which India Won 4-1 in 5 Match T20I Series under the Young Captain Shubman Gill after T20WC.


But, now Gambhir Will takeover the Head Coach Role for Team India across Formats. Team India have a new Captain in Surya Kumar Yadav with Shubman Gill being named as his deputy in T20Is. While Gill also has been named Vice Captain in ODIs also in which Rohit Sharma Will continue to Lead.


Meanwhile Hardik Pandya and KL have been demoted in Captaincy role. Previously VC in T20Is and Stand-in Captain in ODIs respectively. Well, what are the Plans of Gautam Gambhir for taking forward Indian Cricket, let’s see. Hopefully it will be fun, exciting and Dominating. All the Best Coach and Team.

  It’s time for Transition now   The time has come now for a complete changeover in team India. From the current set of players, there are most of players were part of that last ICC event, which was won by India, way back in 2013. Since that it’s been almost 10 years now, where we are still searching for that glory. The same set up is continued till now, but certainly failed in crunch moments. India tour to New Zealand, What we got?

  What we got from New Zealand Tour?   Just after the T20 World Cup, Indian team travelled to New Zealand for a limited over series for 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. Team India picked two different teams for two different format, where some of the senior players were rested. Hardik had given the T20Is captaincy, while Shikhar Dhawan had given the ODI captaincy.   The series started and ended with frustration as the complete tour was affected by rain. Only two games were possible completely across two formats. In T20 series 1 st game was a complete washout, 2 nd game was easily won by India, while the 3 rd game was ended with a tie in DLS method, which resulted in series 1-0 in favor of India.   In the other hand 1 st ODI was a good outing for the hosts as they chased a 300+ total quite easily and took a 1-0 lead in 3 match series. Recently, India’s Test Captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the longest format of the cricket. Well it’s not surprising at all, that, it came over on just a normal social media post. It’s very rare to find, players officially announcing their farewell and ending their career in the ground, while playing. Well, many will feel it as a shocking news.
