TATA IPL 2025 is set to resume on May 17, 2025 with a revised schedule. After facing one week’s suspension, it is finally going to back. The Suspension was a forced decision as there was a War situation between India and Pakistan. Player’s and Fan’s safety were some major concern due to which IPL GC and BCCI had to take that call.
But now, as the situation is under control, they have decided to complete the remainder of this year’s IPL. Initially, there were talks about using Asia Cup’s window to completing the remainder of this mega event. But, considering the situation and International calendar, they have finalized the dates which is from 17th May to 3rd June.
Well, conducting the IPL in revised schedule isn’t a big issue for BCCI. But, Overseas Player’s availability is now a big question. Particularly the Playoff Part may get affected due to absence of more no of foreign players. As the Tournament is restarting almost after a week and schedule is restructured, some part of League and Playoff matches coinciding with some International Fixtures.
There is a series between West Indies and Ireland which is starting from 21st May and in another series West Indies again playing against England, which is starting on 29th May. Apart from that there is a WTC Final between Australia and South Africa from 11th June. And there are some players actively playing for some of the IPL Teams are part of these Fixtures.
Especially the two series of West Indies. Due to the new rule in ODI format for World Cup Qualifications, ODIs are now became very important ones. That’s why teams can’t afford to neglect that. So, few Caribbean and English players might have to return from IPL during playoffs. For example, Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell, Romario Shepherd, Sherfane Rutherford etc.
On the other hand, WTC Final bound players must be in double mind. Yes, the match is scheduled after almost a week from IPL Final. But, they will require some time for rest and then for practice also. And, they will also be mindful about potential injury concern during this short period. Apart from that, the sensitive situation in India in last few days may force them to avoid coming back here.
So, there are concerns around these factors among all the Franchises. Particularly with those ones, who are yet to qualify and have decent chance of getting into the Playoffs. They are seeking clarity from Players as well as from BCCI as they have already started their preparation after break. Also, they are looking for some potential replacement options, incase few players choose to opt out.
For that situation, BCCI have introduced a new rule of Temporary Replacement. Which will allow teams to sign a player as replacement for this year’s remaining games on a temporary basis. But, the slight change is that, they can’t be able to retain them for next season, which is not the case with previously bought replacement options.
In the revised schedule, some regular venues haven’t been allotted the matches and the fixtures are slightly rearranged. That DC vs PBKS match which was suspended at Dharamshala will now restart from beginning and the opening match of this part 2 of 18th Season will be reverse fixture between KKR & RCB
After a tensed War situation and few days of break, IPL 2025 is going to resume and all the eyes will be on that. With the focus around Foreign Player’s participation, these remaining few games will be absolute fun. The Kind of relationship that BCCI carries with other Boards, it is possible that most of them will return and we will see a blockbuster finish to this season.
